This Weekend’s Shows Recap

This weekend I found myself once again at local shows and hanging out with some super chill people! Here’s a quick recap of the local shows I went to with pictures! (for all the lazy people)

Saturday:

1. Trailview (Martinez,CA) started things off this weekend at the grand opening of C.R.E.A.M with an awesome two hour acoustic set featuring originals off their latest E.P. “All Things Grow” which you can download for free right now over at their Bandcamp page!

2. After Trailview’s set, Safety Hazard (Concord, CA) also played an acoustic set at C.R.E.A.M. If you’ve never heard of Safety Hazard check out their music Here! I personally recommend “Loser Blues” & “Beverly Drive”  🙂

Sunday

There’s a reason I love local band shows and especially house shows. They’re always a great time! My Own Confusion (Dublin, CA) hosted a rad house show (yes, even though it was Sunday) Full of good music and chill people.

3. The Truth Is (Hayward, CA) did an awesome acoustic set w/tambourine playing originals such as “Dear, New Girl” and “O.S.D. (All That I Say Is True)” and then did some awesome New Found Glory/All Time Low/Fall Out Boy covers for all the pop punk lovers!  Check out their music Here!

4. Lastly Don’t Be The Hero (Oakland, CA) gave us all a huge dose of Pop Punk playing their energetic originals ” The Anthem”, “Summer” & “The Chase” and finished things off with their “I Miss You” cover! Check out their latest single “The Anthem

(Sidenote: Their usual bassist Clare was unable to make this show, So their guitarist Troy took over for the day)

Touring as a bassist

Hey everyone I’m back HOLY SHIT its been a long time and boy do I have a lot to talk about. Some of you may know and others may just be finding out that I went on tour with my metal band Apothesary, we went around the entire country and it was a phenomenal experience. From this tour I have learned a lot about how to be a better band mate and how to be a more resourceful bass player.

First let me just say this when you go on tour BE PREPARED we spent two days before touring packing and we still forgot stuff. Always be sure that you have all the necessities I.E. guitars, amps, drums, plugs, clothes, money, etc because even if you forget the most minor thing there is no turning around and it could effect your touring experience. Second when on the road be sure to bring a lot of comfortable clothes and some things to do like a book, magazine, laptop, Ipod, etc because getting bored on tour is easy and no one ever wants to be bored. Touring for a long period of time can also make one feel homesick, alone, and angry trust me you can run around acting like the toughest person in the world but after spending a long time with the same people in the same van doing the same thing over and over again you WILL find times that you feel like you’ve had enough and all you need to do is persevere and remember how awesome of a time you are having.

For me personally I hadn’t lost it, we will just use this term to describe what I was talking about earlier, until we had been about a week and a half into the tour, I just all of the sudden felt tired, cranky, and even with my great band mates, felt lonely at times but I always found a way to look at the bright side of things. When on tour if you leave with a positive attitude then you will come back even more happy then when you left. I could go into a whole lot of detail about fun things to do while just traveling the country side but you all want to hear some advice on what to do while touring well I’m just going to write down this list and you should memorize it because it will save your ass.

1. Make sure you have everything (gear, clothes, entertainment)

2. Make sure your bandmates have everything

3. Bring  A LOT OF MONEY

4. Enjoy the country ( it has a lot to offer)

5. Be there for your bandmates ( they WILL help you back)

6. let your equipment acclimate to the venue ( let your gear sit in the venue before you play IF POSSIBLE)

7. Do your best to spend time on a sound check

8. If something bad happens don’t take it out on your band just learn from your mistakes and move on

9. Practice when you get the chance ( sitting in a van for a long time can make you sloppy before you play)

10. Eat healthy ( don’t eat fast food all the time because you will end up being sick more than you want to)

11. Keep a positive attitude ( don’t let the little things hold you down)

12. Talk with people at the venues (you will meet the coolest people on tour if you try)

13. Get new strings( I should have said this earlier but if you don’t get new strings eventually you will hear why you should have)

14. Get into your performances ( after a few shows you may be tired of it but if you put in the effort the crowd will go nuts over you after every show)

15. GO ON TOUR IT IS THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD ( this is common sense but I’m putting this here because if you get the opportunity to do this go for and it will change you forever)

I hope you all enjoyed this I’ll see you all next week Take care
